The first time I went to Miami I was on a big trip through the US with my best friend. We stayed ten days, made incredible memories and I have yet to get that tan again. This time around I accompanied Greg on his business trip and spent my 72 hours in Miami Beach enjoying The Fontainbleau Resort. As an introvert I love spending time alone and making my own plans for the day. The property itself is huge and I tried to explore as much as I could. My days mostly consisted of getting a prime spot on the beach, reading David and Goliath and having a cocktail (or two). The restaurant selection was incredible as it featured three of Michael Mina’s restaurants and Scott Conant’s Scarpetta. The lobby of the hotel was grand and just like you’d expect it to be from the movies. I’d never stayed at such a large beach property before and for a moment felt like I could have been in Las Vegas, if it weren’t for the palm trees and lack of casino.

I always have the need to work out when I’m on a beach. You see the board walk where people are running while others are doing exercises on the beach. It motivates me to do the same so I took advantage of the fitness classes offered and signed myself up for a Lean Body class. It turns out that the hotel was very slow that week and I was the only person who signed up for it… I ended up getting more of a personal instruction session versus a class and I automatically felt a little nauseous. I like exercising in a group setting and when all the attention is on you, it gets intense real quick. My instructor was really good as he adjusted the exercises to my fitness level but also pushed me beyond. I was just proud I didn’t pass out and rewarded myself with a healthy breakfast afterwards.

I forgot how tired you get from being out by the water all day so my evenings mostly consisted of relaxing in bed and watching The Office on Netflix. I’ve talked about this before in this post but I love spending time in a hotel room. It’s one of my favorite things to do on vacation (if the time allows) and since I was going to be alone anyways, I might as well do what I love! I did venture to the bar for dinner with my book once and definitely got a few interesting looks for reading at the bar.  What can I say, I love reading!

Miami Beach has so much to offer but my favorite part will always be the beach itself. I think the next time I’d like to go Miami is for the Art Basel show. I’ve heard so many great things about it and would love to experience it one day. Have you been to Miami? If so, what’s your favorite part?
