As I’m writing this I’m sitting in a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in sunny Anaheim, California. While I always struggle to schedule out my blog posts when I’m out of town it’s an even bigger struggle to keep up my fitness regiment. So here I go, with my iced Thai tea latte by my side (it’s delicious btw) – my April fitness files!
One thing that has made a big difference for me is simply packing workout clothes. Obviously you need that to exercise but seeing it in my suitcase reminds me that I still need to get my workout in. There’s nothing worse than packing something and never using it throughout your entire trip. It kind of leaves that guilty feeling behind so instead, I like to plan out exactly when I’m going to put on my gear. In my case right now, I’m going to check out my hotel’s gym this afternoon and pretend to know what I’m doing in the weights section.
Last month I said I was going to get back into Zumba but that didn’t happen. Ooops! Instead I embarked on a cycling journey and attended my first cycling class. I mean…that was like the hardest class ever. My legs were killing me, I could barely sit and generally felt like a piece of Jello afterwards. A week later I went for my second class and I felt a lot better. I still felt like Jello afterwards but knowing what to expect was half the battle for me.
What exercise I’ll attempt to do: For this month’s April fitness files I’m embarking on yet another new journey and that is to get back into running. Well it’s technically not new for me but I haven’t been on a proper run since I broke my foot back in January. If you don’t know what happened, you can read more about that glorious accident here.
What I bought: I have purchased some new Nike running shoes with a very snazzy name: The Nike Lunar Flyknight 3. They’re supposed to be very lightweight and I love the fabric on them. I tried them on in store but then ordered them online because they didn’t have my size in the orange fire color. Yes, even the color of the shoe sounds funky. But don’t we all need a little bit of funk in our life?
What I’m eating: I’ve been eating a lot of salads again lately. I mean I know the majority of people eat salad all the time but I’ve never been one of those people. With spring in full swing – hey that rhymed! – I’m more conscious again about what I’m eating and I realize that a salad can be a lot more interesting with the right toppings. I’m looking at you, spiced pecans!
What I’m listening too: I discovered a new artist on Spotify and it so happens that she’ll be in Washington D.C. for a concert in May! Her name is Lapsley and one of my favorite songs is Falling Short.
