Some things just don’t sound exciting, like exfoliating. For years it left a bad taste in my mouth because the products I used were too harsh on my skin. Even though I would have greatly benefited from it, I never prioritized it in my skincare regiment. Then a few months ago my friend Ada (from Alchimie Forever) introduced me to her gentle antioxidant refining scrub. I was hooked from the minute I tried it and not just because it does a great job at exfoliating. I found it to be incredibly moisturizing, so much so that I can even use it without dampening my face first. The shea butter in the scrub nourishes and softens my skin while the exfoliating beads are gentle enough not to irritate me.
If you want to get the maximum benefits out of your skincare regiment, you have to be exfoliating for glowing skin. It will remove dead skin cells and provide a clean slate for all of the products that follow. After getting back from Miami last week, my face was in desperate need of exfoliation. On Monday when I applied makeup, my face looked super patchy and dry – not a good look. I exfoliated that night with the Alchimie Forever scrub, put on the First Aid Beauty Bouncy Mask and followed it with the Glossier Rich Priming Moisturizer. My face looked a lot better the next morning as I applied the same makeup from the day before and didn’t have any dry, patchy areas.
The key is to find an exfoliating scrub that works for your skin type and then making it a part of your regular routine. Depending on the intensity of the scrub, you can use it a few times a week and see immediate results. I like exfoliating before applying a mask, such as this brightening one, because it gives me that glowing skin that I’m after. I’m still on the hunt for a good body scrub so please do tell if you know of a good one!
