Five Things You Should Know Before Going Blonde

5 Things You Should Know Before Going Blonde

If you’re following me on Snapchat – vici_loves – then you’ll know that I’m a blonde now! It had been on my mind for a while and I’m so happy with the way it turned out. Through the process of researching what hair stylist I’d want to go to and preparing myself to be a blonde (again) I thought I’d share five things you should know before going blonde.

1. Find A Good Hair Stylist

There’s nothing more important than finding someone you can trust, feel comfortable with – and most importantly –  understands color. Google different salons in your area, go on Instagram (that’s how I found mine) or simply ask a friend where they get their hair done.

2. Be Prepared To Buy New Products

You’ll need to get a new shampoo and conditioner that is for color treated hair so that it maintains your hair color as long and as best as possible. Additionally you’ll want to consider buying at-home treatments that you can do once a week to strengthen the hair in between services.

There is nothing more important than using the correct products for your hair.

3. It’s Expensive

Regardless of what your budget is or even what technique you get done, it will be an expensive first appointment. After that it depends on how much lighter you want to go in the following appointments and how often you want to get it touched up.

4. Find Your Inspiration

Have pictures you can show of what color (and cut) you’re thinking. Your hair stylist will know what works for your skin tone and guide you to a shade that looks natural on you. Just one more reason to spend hours on Pinterest :-)

5. Blondes Weren’t Built In A Day

Depending on how dark your natural hair is it will take a few appointments to get to your preferred lightness of blonde. When I went in for my appointment I said I wanted to be a natural blonde – no platinum etc – and my hair stylist told me that platinum wouldn’t be possible anyways because it takes a few stages to get there.

PS: In case you want to know where I got my hair done, I went to Winston at PR at Partners K Street – and he also took these fabulous pictures of my hair! You’ve got to check out his Instagram for some serious hair inspiration…
