I’ve gotten into a great habit of getting rid of things I don’t like. One of the main categories I do that in, is my beauty collection. Whereas I used to have a mindset of more, more, more – I’m now a less is more kind of gal. From throwing out tons of products over the last 12 months, I’ve got 5 tips on how to declutter your makeup.
How to Declutter your Makeup: Essential Tips
Start With the Rejects
We all have that pile. The one where you used to love that product, wear it all the time and now you’re over it. Whether you’ve changed your makeup style, you don’t like the color anymore or it doesn’t feel like YOU. Get rid of the easy reject products first and you’ll already make a good dent into your collection.
Check Expiration Dates
We all try to ignore that makeup products expire but they really do! Especially lip products and mascara. Check the number on the product and that will indicate how many months the product is good for (from the time you opened it).
Swatch Them Colors
This is the fun part! Get your hands and arms out for a swatch party. Similar lipstick colors? Eyeshadow palettes that aren’t pigmented or too chalky? Swatching them on the back of your hand will either make you fall back in love with an item or make you throw it into the bin.
Organize According to your Routine
There are many different solutions to organizing your makeup but it really comes down to where and when you apply your makeup. Make it convenient with easy access to your favorite everyday products. Who cares how you store your makeup. Do whatever works best for your life and routine! That way you’ll also enjoy your products more and not let them go to waste.
Treat Yo Self
Okay this is truly the best part. Once you’ve purged and decluttered your makeup collection, make a list of things you’re missing or are really excited to try. I purchased two RMS products after decluttering and I’ve been using them nonstop because I LOVE them. Buy the makeup products you’ve been lusting over and freshen up your routine, you deserve it!
