I was going to write my fitness goals for January last week, share a fresh start with you and tackle 2016 on a good note. But then I broke my foot and my fitness goals have changed quite a bit since then.
Now how did you break your foot you ask? Well, I decided to go for a run around my neighborhood and 15 minutes in, my right foot landed funny on the pavement and I fell to the ground. Luckily I don’t need surgery and that’s the best outcome I could have asked for. It will take 6-8 weeks for my foot to completely heal and I already have 1 week down.
I’m upset that this happened right at the beginning of the year but on the other hand it’s better to be injured in the cold winter than when everybody is hanging out at the beach in the summer. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.
It’s frustrating to loose all the stamina and (baby) muscles that I’ve acquired over the last year. But I guess it will be an even bigger motivation to get back into the swing of things once I’m all healed up. Over Christmas I got a gift certificate to a new workout studio and I can’t wait to schedule my first classes there.
In the next few weeks I’m going to focus on keeping my arms strong with 3 pound weights and do light ab exercises in my living room. My dog Daisy lays next to me while I do my exercises and I feel slightly ridiculous wearing my boot but that’s okay. It’s all part of not getting beat down about this.
Have you ever dealt with an injury that interfered with your plans? I guess it just goes to show how anything can change in a day.
