I never thought I’d join the club but I have finally become a SHOE PERSON. Yes, it’s as difficult for you as it is for me to understand this shift. If you’ve known me for a long time (shout out to all my Swiss friends), you know that I’ve always been a handbag girl. I saved up my first salary to get the Louis Vuitton Speedy bag – oh the glory days of LV! – and have grown a nice selection of bags over the years. But as I’ve grown older (and wiser?) shoes have become increasingly more interesting to me. One of my best friends is a serious shoe person and I never understood it. WHY do you have so many shoes and WHY would you spend so much money on them? Handbags made more sense to me because at least you can put stuff in them and they hold up way longer. BUT. My view has changed.
Thanks to a generous Christmas gift card, I treated myself to these beautiful block heel shoes from Loeffler Randall. I went into the store not knowing what I was going to walk out with and that was half the fun. I fell in love with the heel height, the blush color (hello, spring) and the lace up detail. At first I was a bit hesitant about the lace up detailing because I didn’t know if it was “me”. But after trying them on and seeing how they fit, I was sold. When it comes to heels, I’m all about a good heel height. Since my foot injury I’ve become more aware of good shoe support and the overall quality of a shoe. A three inch heel (without having a platform) is the perfect height for me. These Loeffler Randall block heels come in at two inches which is the perfect daytime height. I know I’ll get a ton of use out of them because they’re stylish enough without overpowering a casual daytime look. But they’re sophisticated enough to double as a date night shoe or happy hour with friends. You feel me.
It’s been a long time since I’ve treated myself to an “impulse purchase” where I’d browse and walk out with whatever I wanted. Within reason, obviously. While I’m still lusting over the newest Gucci bags (who isn’t?!), shoes are easier to switch up. They complete your look, offer your feet vital support (I’ve become an old lady) and make you feel more confident. I have another gift card I’m still looking to spend and you know what I’m thinking of getting? Another pair of shoes.
Are you a shoe or handbag person? Can one be both? Now that is the question.
