Makeup Product Fails

Product Fails

So far I’ve only shared products with you that I’ve loved on my blog. But like any other person I also run into things that I don’t like, things I wish I hadn’t purchased and could have saved my money on. I think it’s only fair to you as a reader that I also share product fails and talk about why they didn’t work for me. Keep in mind that not liking one product from a brand doesn’t mean I don’t like the entire brand. With any brand there’s going to be hits and misses and the point is not to talk badly upon them but to simply give my personal opinion. With that being said, here are my recent product fails:

Marc Jacobs Lash Lifter Mascara: Oh how I wished I could have loved you! This was my first purchase from the Marc Jacobs beauty line when they launched a few years ago. I splurged on this because I wanted to treat myself to a fancy mascara for my honeymoon. Well…it didn’t do much for me at all. The only redeeming quality that it had was that it separated my lashes like a dream. However it didn’t give me any volume and although it says it has a gel like formula I found it to be quite dry once it was on my lashes. It gives you a very subtle look and for the price of a high end mascara I wouldn’t recommend it. I don’t know if they’ve changed the formula on it since I got it but this was a disappointment for me. I am intrigued however to try out the O!Mega Lash Volumizing Mascara from the range and see if I like that one better!

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner: I got this upon reading that it’s a great dupe for the Nars Via Veneto Eyeliner. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on an eyeliner and gave this one a shot thinking it would stay in place, being waterproof and all. It applied beautifully, creamy with a rich black color. But a few minutes after applying it was already running out of my waterline and the inevitable smeared Panda look was in full effect. After wearing it several times and trying to make it work I gave up and ended up getting the Nars Eyeliner instead (you can check out my review on the Nars eyeliner here).

L’Oreal Paris Magic Lumi Highlighter: I’ve never tried the YSL Touche Eclat highlighter and I had heard this one is a great drugstore dupe for it. I’ve worn it several times now and although it highlights a bit, it creases easily and doesn’t show up on my skin as much as I would like. I can’t really tell a difference between when I’m wearing it and when I’m not…

Maybelline Brow Drama Gel: I don’t use any brow gels so I thought I’d give this one a try and see if it would do anything for me. I picked this one up from the drugstore as it had an interesting shape to it. The applicator is shaped like a mascara wand but also has a ball at the end of the tip. And that, as I found out later, is the exact problem with it. The ball is too big in order for me to be able to use the rest of the brow wand. No matter how I angle it, I can only use the ball to define my brows and that’s very impractical for when I get to the end of my brows where they thin out. It also doesn’t fill in my brows and rather smears it around… I even tried cutting the ball off of the wand but that didn’t work out either. Total Fail!

Those were all of my recent product fails! Have you had any makeup products that you’ve been disappointed with?
