Lip Pencils don’t seem like a hip product or something that may be important in a makeup collection. Too often the focus is on the lip gloss or lipstick and the pencil kind of sits in the back of the corner waiting for attention. This year Sephora gave out two sample size Nars lip pencils as part of their birthday gift program. As my birthday was just over a month ago I’ve been testing them out and wanted to share my thoughts on them with you. I personally love lip pencils because they allow for precise color application and enhance any lip product that you layer on top.
This pencil is a rosy pink color with a smooth satin finish. You can either apply it once for a sheer look or build it up for a darker look. I only applied one coat and it instantly gave me that “your lips but better” color. I’ve mostly been wearing it when I don’t want too much makeup on my face yet still look a little put together. I love it right now in the summer as I’ve been trying to wear the least amount of makeup in this heat wave. Because the lip pencil has a satin finish it feels moisturizing and has a creamy texture. It’s long wearing and a great base for when you want to layer it with a lip gloss or lipstick.
Love that name – 101 Dalmatians anyone?? This lip pencil is a beautiful dark matte red. It’s velvety smooth consistency allows for a precise application and looks beautiful on the lips. It’s a lot drier than the Nars Satin Lip Pencil so you definitely have to use a lip balm prior. I love wearing a red lip pencil underneath a red lipstick because it makes the color stay in place so much longer. This color is a bit too dark for me right now but I know I’ll get a lot of use out of it once the fall comes around.
Overall I’m impressed with the Nars lip pencils and their color payoff. It makes me want to try out more of their lip products – so dangerous! Leave me a comment below if you have any recommendations for me!
What are your thoughts on lip pencils? Have you given any of the Nars ones a try?
