Palm Bay Island

G’day from Australia! Greg and I spent the first four days of our trip in the Whitsundays at Palm Bay Island. After traveling for 36 hours, we were more than happy to be on a secluded island where wallabies and turkey run around. It’s always been a dream of ours to visit Australia and finally being there felt surreal.

We booked a small bungalow right on the beach with stunning views and woke up every morning to the sound of the birds. It was funny because the first morning I thought it was an alarm outside until I realized it was all the different types birds chirping. Palm Bay provided us with a tropical experience where beautiful cockatoos fly around and turkeys run underneath the steps to your bungalow. The wallabies were a lot more shy and as soon as you saw one, they’d jump away into the bushes.

As I mentioned in my previous digital detox post, the island did not have any wifi and fully allowed us to soak in our environment without any distractions. I finished a book by Malcolm Gladwell ( Outliers – it was amazing!), went on a 2 hour hike around the island and enjoyed relaxing by the pool. We did go out to the Great Barrier Reef one day but otherwise we had our sight set on enjoying the tranquil island.

My favorite part of Palm Bay Island was simply walking around and taking in the nature. The stars shined bright at night, feeling like they were so close to us. At sunset we’d sit outside, chat with other guests, sip on a refreshing cocktail and listen to the many birds chirping away.
