For better or worse, I’m super thoughtful (i.e. slow) about what I buy for our house. So when I see something I love, and I know it’s a regularly stocked item, I will think about it for months before I pull the trigger.
Part of it is because I want to buy when things are on sale – and I have expensive taste 😂. I’m still a big fan of Ikea and Target, don’t worry! But as I’m looking to add new long-term furniture to the house, I want to look elsewhere.
Because we’re spending all our days at home, I’ve prioritized home decor more. And I LOVE a lived-in look. A house filled with warmth and coziness. Rooms filled with books, photos, and travel mementos. A house that reflects the uniqueness of the people living in it.
West Elm is one of my favorite interior stores. While I’m not a mid-century gal, I love creating a rustic, vintage feeling – and that store always inspires me. Over the years, I’ve accumulated a few pieces from them. I bought this console in 2014 and it’s currently our entryway table.
Two years ago we got this velvet sectional as a Christmas gift and it is GLORIOUS – and you bet I waited for a sale! Look at this post to see it in action. And then during last year’s Black Friday sale, I purchased this mirror for above the console.

Bringing it back to the present day and I added two more things to our home. First, these linen blackout curtains so I don’t have to put a pillow over my face, every time the sun comes up. Our blinds alone aren’t strong enough. I got them in the natural color because I want to paint our bedroom (eventually) and I think it will go well with either white or more moody, dark colors. I’m not sure why the online photo looks white but they’re definitely a sandy, natural color.
Another thing that I’ve wanted to do for AGES is to update our bedding. I’ve purchased the luxe sheets from Brooklinen before and loved the quality. However, it’s not ideal for warm sleepers so I went with the classic percale sheet set. And wow, talk about having hotel bed sheets. Crisp, cool, and wonderful to sleep in. I also updated our duvet-insert to this lightweight one and it was.worth.it.
Last but not least, I got these wooden floating shelves (2 feet) for our kitchen peninsula. I’ve wanted more surface area to display photos and I can’t wait to hang them up.
