Last year was all about the matte lipstick, liquid or not. It dominated the beauty industry and while I still love it, I’m ready for a change. One of the makeup trends I’ve noticed for 2017 is the return of the gloss. Spring is the perfect time to break out your favorite lipgloss as it adds dimension and shine to your lips. It’s full of youth and is a refreshing change after a year of matte lipsticks. In the last few weeks I’ve resorted to one of my personal favorite lipglosses, the YSL Tint-in-Oil, as it’s super moisturizing and leaves a nice tint behind. Another way to add gloss to your lips is by going for a glossy balm, such as this one by Maybelline. The balm applies sheer and gives me subtle glossy lips.
I got so caught up in lipsticks last year that I’d forgotten how fun lipglosses can be. Yes they don’t last as long but they sure feel better on my lips than a drying lipstick. I remember when I started wearing makeup and I was always excited about applying lipgloss. It was one of THE staples in a young girls makeup collection.
Another thing that used to be a major trend was the clear lipgloss. Do you remember when everyone went nuts for the MAC Lipglass in the early 2000’s? So many lip trends have emerged since then but I still think that’s one of my favorite makeup memories. What’s fun about the clear lipgloss is that you can now also apply it on top of eyeshadow (or your bare lids) and give yourself a glossy eye makeup look. I’ve been using this Pixi Lipgloss to reminisce on those fun days and have yet to try the MAC lipglass! I myself was a big Stila Lipgloss girl back in the day. And of course the Lancôme Juice Tubes.
I learned many years ago to stear clear from sticky lipglosses or ones that smell too sweet. I can’t handle a lip product smelling like a vanilla cupcake, but that’s just my preference! I stick with the formulas I like and am fully embracing the return of the gloss for 2017.
