You might have seen this jade roller pop up online and wonder what the heck it is. Well, so did I. Is it a gimmick? Does it actually help your skin? How does it help your skin? When would you use it? Let me break it down for you…
What is a jade roller
It’s this paint roller type tool that you use to massage your face with. It features two oblong jade stones, the smaller one being for tighter spots, such as your eyes and mouth . It’s held together by a metal frame and has been around for centuries. But it’s more recently made appearances all over Instagram so it was obviously time for me to investigate this tool.
What does a jade roller do
Because its a stone, it feels very cooling on your skin and thus helps with puffiness and redness. The massaging motion is meant to increase circulation and stimulate the lymphatic system. We hold a lot of tension in our face and massaging your face can help relax your muscles. With regular usage it’s also supposed to help with reducing wrinkles and general swelling of the face.
But is it actually useful
While I can’t speak to reducing wrinkles, I love using it when my eyes are feeling puffy. I never give myself face massages and having this tool makes it so easy. It feels oddly satisfying and if anything, cools down my face. I do think this would be especially useful if you clench your jaw or have tight muscles in your face. Applying a slight amount of pressure feels really relaxing and it’s something you can do yourself! Considering the affordability, I think it’s worth looking into if you’re trying to improve your skin.
When to use a jade roller
The jade roller is great at working moisturizers into your skin. Using it after your skincare routine can actually increase the effectiveness of those products and properly get to work on your skin. I like using it after I’ve applied my serum or face oil but whatever you decide to do, make sure you use it on clean skin. And clean it with a bit of soap after each use! Ain’t nobody got time for breakouts.
Are you thinking of giving the jade roller a try? I’m going to start keeping it in the fridge for an added sense of cooling!
