Last Saturday I got the most wonderful – and much needed – facial at Pure Aesthetica in Alexandria. I got a 3-1 facial treatment that came with microdermabrasion. I’d never tried it before and was eager to see what it would do for my skin.

What Is Microdermabrasion

It’s a non-invasive (i.e. it does not hurt) procedure that exfoliates and removes dead skin cells. It honestly felt like I was getting my face vacuumed in the best possible way. It buffs and polishes your skin using either a stream of crystals or diamond tip. And like I said: It does not hurt. I’ve got dry and sensitive skin and it felt great. Your face does get warm but right when the technician is done, they put cold towels on your face to cool it down. Followed by creams, masks, the works.

The Results

I’ve gotten facials before but usually it’s been a bunch of creams and masks that were being massaged into my skin. Now having tried microdermabrasion, I am hooked. Not only did my skin visibly look rejuvenated, it felt extremely smooth and radiant. And days later, I can still tell the difference in my skin. My skin is absorbing my serums and moisturizers better and my face makeup applies more evenly.

For the photos in this post, I’m not wearing any foundation or concealer. Just mascara, brow powder and lipgloss. I washed my face with micellar water (more on that here) and didn’t apply any moisturizer after that. That glowing skin is au naturelle, baby!

Should You Try Microdermabrasion

If you’re struggling with fine lines, dry skin, uneven pigmentation or clogged pores, I’d recommend looking into it. It doesn’t have the same results as a chemical peel but I like that it’s not as intense as a chemical peel. Microdermabrasion is a great procedure to maximize the benefits of your skincare regiment and keeps your face looking fresh.

You can get it done every few weeks or every few months, depending on your skin and budget. I’d like to get it done every few months now just to keep my skin looking good. It’s all about preventative maintenance, you know? Have you tried microdermabrasion? Or are you considering it?
