Winter Skin Care Routine

This time of year I always try to defy winter as best as possible. I pay closer attention to what products I’m putting on my skin and reach for heavier consistencies. My winter skin care routine is more thought out because the weather can be really harsh on me and my skin will show it immediately.

Using a cleansing balm like this one is key. After that, I follow up with a serum because if you have really dry skin, you need a serum. I’m just about finished with this one and even though it has a light consistency, it’s moisturizing properties give my skin a nice supple feeling. I use this smoothing eye cream afterwards followed by this moisturizing day cream. This routine is hydrating enough for me throughout the day. At night however, I apply a face oil as my last step to penetrate my skin even further. Exfoliation is the name of the game when it comes to winter skin care and this gentle scrub is filled with shea butter, jojoba and other antioxidants. It’s become a favorite of mine because you apply it on dry skin – yes! – and scrub it gently over your face. You’re rubbing the shea buttter into your skin while exfoliating and when you wash it off, your skin is left hydrated and smooth as butter. And the one mask I can’t live without is this one. If I could swim in a bathtub of this, my skin would love me forever. Not only does it smell heavenly, it’s consistency is beyond perfect to combat dry skin.

The first thing that comes to mind is body butter. I go through all types but my favorite is this coconut body butter. It’s such a classic and I’m obsessed with everything coconut scented. I’ve been using it for 10+ years and it never fails. I also use this cream from the drugstore to address several eczema spots and use this cult cream on any spots that are in dire need of hydration. I currently don’t have a body scrub in my bathroom – I know! – but I’m picking this one up the next time at their store. I’ve tried it in store and loved how it felt on my skin. Last week I also wrote this post on what products I use to specifically combat my dry hands if you want to check it out here.

Winter is the ideal time to indulge in skin care and treat yourself to some nice products. I’ve got a running list of things I can’t wait to try and I’d love to know what products you swear by. I’m always looking for recommendations and would love to read through some of yours!
